Cientistas coreanos clonaram gatos geneticamente modificados para possuírem uma proteína especial que os faz brilhar no escuro sob luz ultravioleta, anunciou o governo do país nesta quarta-feira, dia 12.
O Ministério de Ciência e Tecnologia coreano disse que a equipe chefiada por Kong Il-keun, um especialista em clonagem da Universidade Nacional Gyeongsang manipulou a proteína RFP na pele de gatos Angorá Turcos. Três gatos com a proteína modificada nasceram em Janeiro e Fevereiro. Um deles morreu. O que não sobreviveu brilhava na cor vermelha ao invés de verde. Os dois sobreviventes são os primeiros gatos RFP produzidos no mundo e actualmente pesam 3 e 3,5 kg cada, disse o Ministério.
